Amazing and wonderful things are happening at Calvin House
on Wednesday nights this fall of 2012.
Last week there was a record set for attendance. We had over 80 students and leaders! It was incredible as student after student arrived-new faces as well as our “regulars”. I guess one of the most heart-warming and wonderful things to witness was how many of our past high school graduates showed up- back to a place where they feel loved and welcome and could see a familiar face. Several brought friends with them as well! What a reflection of the work that God, the PTM staff and volunteers are doing that not only are the college students coming back but they are bringing friends! I hear rumors that a college class could be in the planning stages. All of the classes were overflowing and it was awesome.
I hope you have had a chance to meet Dwight Johnson, the new Junior High Director who is there on Wednesday nights as part of our Calvin House family. He has been such a blessing already! His warmth and his humble spirit are evident each week. And, oh my goodness, can he sing! He has added so much to the music aspect of the Calvin House ministry. It was wonderful when one of the students, Alliyah Vaughn, who was very shy in the past about helping to lead singing, had the courage to get on the stage and sing with Dwight this year. There is just something about Dwight that makes everyone feel comfortable and at ease around him.
In my family group, I have been blessed to witness how the students are encouraging one another, listening to one another (and their leaders), and are growing in their prayer life and their courage in being a good example for Christ. Carlesha, a Calvin House high school senior, gave her testimony yesterday at St. Andrews and talked of how in her dark times she kept coming back to Calvin House and found that God was with her no matter what. She has plans to return as a leader.
Tess continues to be a shining example of a servant leader …I so much appreciate all the hats she wears as a young wife, mother and both servant and leader to the youth and volunteers.
Please pray for the youth. …that not only will their belief in God be strengthened but also that their belief in themselves will be strengthened as well.
