In Search of Peace

Psalm 62:5-6 (kjv)

My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.

I learned, quickly, through formal education and personal life lessons that consistency is key to making one feel safe, stable and supported. For as long as we can remember, we were told that nothing is constant in life except change. As we mature, we become acquainted with life’s circumstances being everything but forgiving and learn to appreciate the very few moments we have to “catch our breath”. As believers, though life is designed to be full of surprises , we find our safety, stability and support by reminding ourselves of the character and promises of God. We live a lifestyle of gratitude not because we view our Savior as a genie in a bottle that’s willing to grant us a life without obstacles, but because we know that God’s grace is sufficient and we’ve never seen the righteous forsaken.

Challenge

Sometime this week, think of a moment when calamity caused you to question your faith. Remind yourself of how things improved despite the uncertainty. Use that situation as evidence of God’s unchanging hand in your life.

Prayer

Our sovereign God, the great I Am, I come to you in gratitude this week. I recognize that the obstacles I face have every reason to make me anxious and sort of waiver in faith when overwhelmed, but you are patient and caring towards me every time. Thank you for leaving us a reminder of who you are and what you’ve done, so that I may continuously find peace and comfort in you: a joy that the world could not give to me and a joy it will not take away.

All these things I pray in your Son’s holy name,

Amen and Amen.
