Letter to the Future Executive Director by Chan Sheppard

September 13, 2021

Dear PTM Future Executive Director,

You will love this job.  In fact, it will not really feel like a job, but more of a calling—and a hobby.

(Wade Payne/globaltrekphoto.com)

It will give to you.  You will enjoy serving with a hard-working, creative, and purposeful staff.  You will love PTM students and their families.  You will be encouraged and inspired by a robust network of volunteers and supporters. You will feel uplifted by so many people who believe in the mission of PTM.

Of utmost importance to PTM, and integral to who you are, is a relationship with God.  God’s will directs every decision you make and your deepest desire is to bring glory to God in all that you do. You are grounded in scripture and in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  You embody the very core beliefs that we want desperately the youth of PTM to know, feel, and believe. You willingly and eagerly communicate with others the supreme role that God plays in the direction of PTM.

You believe in, and are able to be the chief leader, of strategic planning.  You surround yourself with organizational stakeholders and set ambitious goals.  You keep those goals at the forefront of Board and staff meetings.  You are always refining and relentlessly helping to build opportunities for children and youth to grow in connectedness.  You develop a team that feels motivated, resourced, inspired, and enthusiastic. You inspire others by word and example.

You are a connector.  You relate well with the communities where PTM sites are located.  You can competently represent PTM at a meeting of school principals, an association of pastors, at a volunteer recruitment fair, in the living room of a prospective PTM family, or in front of a group of high school volunteers.  You build partnerships in predictable and unpredictable places.

You are invested in both the advancement and program functions of PTM.  You ensure that PTM’s afterschool program consistently teaches about God, builds confident readers, and offers safe and nurturing structure.  Also, you lead and provide for special events, outings and performances that excite and encourage dreams.  You lead PTM in its fundraising efforts and consider it a joy to sustain PTM’s supporters as well as invite new donors and volunteers into PTM’s mission.  You rely on a competent team to do their jobs and find great joy cheering them on from behind the scenes.

You are driven.  You help foster a culture of growth.  Recognizing the needs of our community and the growing number of PTM supporters, you look for ways both to expand the number of youth served by PTM and deepen the ministry to each student.  As hard-working and determined as you are, you are able to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.  You recognize that ministry through PTM is not a sprint, but a marathon.

As demanding as this job will be, you will feel refreshed by it. PTM is committed to offering a salary that is competitive with other similar organizations.  PTM will also provide an opportunity for enrollment in its health insurance group.  Additionally, there will be 15 days of paid leave built into the rhythm of the year.  Like for me, the biggest benefits will come in the satisfaction of serving God and others doing something that is fun, that makes a difference, and that provides many opportunities for relationships with outstanding people.

If interested in this position, please email a resume to Lori (lori@prestontaylorministries.org).  I am very excited to support your transition into a role that I have absolutely loved for 18 years.  I know you will love it too.

Very gratefully yours,

Chan Sheppard, Outgoing Executive Director
