Summer Intern Series: Meet Annadele

June 30, 2015

PTM became a part of my life in an almost identical process as Alex , which is a selective application and interview process that results in 12 rising seniors being selected to work for one of the many wonderful PTM1 non-profit organizations in Nashville. After an anxious few weeks of anticipation we learned where we would be placed for the summer.

Before that moment of discovery I had honestly never heard of Preston Taylor Ministries but I am SO glad that I did. Tuesday through Friday I teach math to all of the students who attend PTM’s summer program. In my first week I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the kids who truly enjoyed math, which warmed my heart as a fellow math lover. At first I didn’t understand how I could make a real impact on these kids while merely teaching math, but with each passing day I spend with them I see more and more growth mathematically and emotionally.

PTM2It means the absolute world to me to see the kids open up to me and it makes me giddy every time they call me “Miss Annadele.” Someone once told me that we don’t remember days, we remember moments, and my time at PTM has really made this come to fruition as I think back on the many lovely memories I have already made at PTM. My first class of the day is an eager group of 4 th graders who are diving into some pretty large math concepts and my last class of the day is a group of giggly kindergarteners who are just beginning to skim the surface of the large mathematical journey ahead of them. However, these two classes resemble each other a large amount in my eyes. This may be because they are my smallest classes and I am able to have more one-on-one time with each of them, but none the less these two classes have both poured an immense amount of their heart in to everything they do, and I hope to be able to do the same for them.
