Senior Spotlight: Meet Kailyn

January 30, 2020

“My mom made me come”, says Kailyn when asked how she first came to PTM as a freshmen. “I didn’t have a lot of friends and the people at PTM turned into family really fast.”

Terrance French, PTM’s high school and Thrive Director, has this to say about the Big Picture High School senior: “Kailyn is a leader and tone setter. Her presence in programming is felt in her leadership and the grace she has for her peers. I can always depend on her to make first timers welcome!”

Q: Kailyn, what are some adjectives you would use to describe yourself?

A: Passionate, honest, loving

Q: Who is someone, living or dead, you would want to have lunch with and what would you ask?

A: My grandmother. She passed when my mom was 8. I would ask about how she met my grandfather.

Q: Who is someone you admire and why?

A: Mr. Terrance. He had a hard life but persevered. He made me look at life different. He taught me that I don’t have it as bad as I think I do sometimes and that I will always get through it. He is a good dad and husband and it makes me think I want someone like Mr. Terrance one day for a husband and a father to my kids. I have not seen my dad in a really long time.

Q: What are some things you have learned at PTM?

A: A lot. Being angry at someone is not worth it. Be kind to all you meet. PTM is like a family to me and I have always felt welcome and never feel out of place here.

Q: What is your favorite memory of PTM?

A: The retreat at the lake house when we were tubing in the water and Brandon flipped and almost broke the tube! It was really funny!

Q: What are your post high school plans?

A: College. Maybe pediatric dentistry.I want to travel…I want to go to Italy!

Q: In 10 years what do you hope your life is like?

A: Married with one child on the way- maybe adopt. There are lots of kids without family and I feel like I have enough love for more kids than just my own. I want to be a college graduate. Maybe live in Des Moines, Iowa. We have family there.

Q: When someone says your name what do you hope they think about?

A: That I am different in a Godly-way. And caring- kind of like a mom.

Q: What are some fun facts about you?

A: I don’t eat red meat to be healthier. And I sing! I would like to do live shows @ coffee shops one day and also hope to open a spa. I love spaghetti and Nigerian food.

Thank you, Kailyn! We are excited for your future!
