Charmeka Lyons, a senior at Maplewood High, has had some life changing experiences of late.
One was being recently baptized at Faith is the Victory church. She describes the experience as “Amazing!”. “I just wanted a fresh start, to start over”, she shared.
Another life-changer was volunteering with her school at a Nashville homeless program. “I saw people without homes or food. It made me realize everybody doesn’t have what I have. I know now there is always a time and place you can help people out.”
Q: Charmeka, you started at PTM when you were 14. What has been your motivation for coming?
A: It helps to keep me out of trouble, I have gotten help with schoolwork that I needed and I want to learn about the Lord.
Q: What is your first memory?
A: Meeting Mr. Dwight and Mr. Chan. Hearing them talk about what all happens at PTM.
Q: What are some words that you would use to describe yourself?
A: Funny, outspoken, kind-hearted, joyful, responsible, respectful
Q: Who is someone you admire and why?
A: My mom. She raised me, taught me, showed me the world and how hard it is. She taught me what not to do.
Q: What is your favorite memory of PTM experiences?
A; When we have Girl’s Night Out. My favorite was when we went to The Spaghetti Factory, walked around downtown and went to the water park.
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone living or dead, who would it be?
A: Whitney Houston. Her music speaks to me. The words in her songs are powerful.
Q: What character traits might you expect to find in a good friend?
A: They would be a leader, not a follower. They have your back and you can rely on them. They can comfort you.
Q: What is something you do that makes you happy?
A: Working and making money.
Q: What is your favorite subject at school?
A: Social Studies and History. I want to travel one day and would love to go to Paris and Las Vegas!
Q: If you could have any superpower what would it be?
A: To teleport!
Q: What are your plans post high school?
A: College- maybe psychology. I just want to do something that helps people with their problems.
Q: When someone says your name what do you hope they think about?
A: That I am a good person, good to hang around, respectful and fun.
Q: Ten years from now how do you see your life going?
A: College-grad, starting a business, being a homeowner and a church-goer.
Thanks, Charmeka, we can’t wait to see God’s plan unfold for you!
