Senior Spotlight: Charity Watkins

March 19, 2019

“Basketball is more than just a game,” Charity shared on a recent Sunday afternoon as we sat and talked. “It is life lessons: Persevere, you can’t give up through the wins or the

losses and you have to set a good example to be a good leader.”  Charity has played on Pearl-Cohn’s team each of her four years there.

Charity has been at PTM since the 8th grade and says her favorite memory of PTM, without hesitation, is going to Barefoot Republic Camp. “I LOVE Barefoot!”, she said.

Q: Charity, what are three words to describe you?

A: Funny, outgoing and caring.

Q: What is something you do that makes you happy?

A: Shopping! But it feels good while I am  doing it but then bad later that I spent my money!

Q: Who is someone you admire and why?

A: My father. He always pushes me when I feel like I can’t go on. I have opportunities now because of that.

Q: What are some traits that you hope to find in the person you may marry one day?

A: There are a lot! Godly, loyal, trusting and caring.

Q: What are your plans after high school?

A: I want to go to college and hopefully play basketball. I want to be a doctor. I also love working with children, modeling and photography!

I  hope to start a business one day called “Charity’s Foundation” – I think that is clever as Charity is my name and I want it to be a business to help people – the homeless and kids. Like PTM!

Q: Is there something in your life that has happened for good or bad that you feel really changed you?

A: It would be my parents divorcing. That was the hardest time. At Barefoot I shared my story. It was such a relief to share it at that time.

Q: What advice would you give a younger person going through that same thing?

A: Only God can really help you through such a time and they should pray… a lot.

Q: Can you tell something about your experience doing Springbreak in the Marketplace through the years?

A: My favorite time was going with a physical therapist. I really liked that! I learned too  that I do not want a job sitting still still all day everyday! I learned I need to be moving around. I also worked at PTM one summer and realized it is a lot harder to teach little kids math than I thought!

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: It is math. It makes me think a lot and I like being challenged.

Q: If you could have lunch with someone, living or dead, who would it be?

A: Whitney Houston. Her voice is so great. I would like to know how she died as I have heard so many different things.

Q: Charity, when someone says your name, what do you hope they think about?

A: Well, I know they usually think “that tall girl who is always laughing” but I hope they think that I am someone who puts others before me.

Q: What do you see happening in your life in 10 years?

A: I hope to be a doctor, settled down with someone, prospering financially , stable and happy.
