Meet Lindsey

June 23, 2017

Hi, my name is Lindsey Ross, I am going to be a senior in high school at Harpeth Hall this year. I have been volunteering at Preston Taylor Ministries off and on for almost three years. I have never had an official job with the organization, so I am excited for this summer. All of the children at St. Luke’s Community House are always filled with joy and excitement for the day ahead. I have already gotten to know a lot of the kids, and I am so happy that I still have weeks left with them. I will definitely be sad to go when the summer ends. Seeing the smile on a child’s face when they figure out a problem or finish their art is so fulfilling. Being with the kids brings me back to my childhood. It takes away my stress for a little while.

They always enter the classroom with a smile on their face. Even if they don’t like the activity that day, they end up having fun. In enrichment the other day, we were doing a STEM project on who can build the tallest tower out of play-dough and toothpicks. Some of the fourth graders were getting pretty annoyed that their towers kept falling over. They kept encouraging each other even though they were competing against each other! Even after the summer ends, I will never forget these kids and how they have impacted my life. Their kindness and love will always stay with me. A first grader named Yaritza drew me a picture that I will treasure forever. When she gave me the picture in art, I felt so loved and cherished.

If I could travel anywhere, I would go to Spain. I take Spanish in school and would love to use the language in a real world setting. There is also a lot of rich history and culture in Spain. I would also love to try authentic Spanish foods.
