Summer Intern Series: Meet Jonathan

July 23, 2015

summerinternseries IMG_5798 My name is Jonathan and I’m currently completing my advanced seminar hours at Preston Taylor Ministries.  I have my Bachelors in Social Work from Freed Hardeman University and I’m currently working on completing my Masters of Social Work at the University of Tennessee.  PTM has really opened my eyes to what can be accomplished when you allow the Lord to guide your steps.  The program is full of staff and volunteers that truly care about the Preston Taylor community.

I have mainly been involved with individual and group counseling and have helped start the “Authentic Manhood” group with the Junior High boys. IMG_6215 This group focuses on what it means to be a man by looking at God’s blueprint for manhood and leadership.  We’re able to dive into topics that we feel can prepare the boys of the group for the challenging aspects of adulthood.  I have also had opportunities to go to a retreat with the children, work with community partners to promote PTM, and participate in outreach programs to work with the children on growing spiritually. Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:14 that we are the light of the world and that we cannot be hidden.  PTM has given me an opportunity to be a “light” in the Preston Taylor community.  But more importantly, I have seen the “light” in the children with whom I have had the opportunity to work. My favorite part of PTM is watching the children grow mentally, physically, and spiritually.  Preston Taylor creates a sense of family in the way they show their love for the children with whom they work.IMG_6271

Preston Taylor is always looking for ways to involve you.  There are many different areas that you can be involved with.  From working with the children on reading and math skills, assisting with community outreach programs, to being a mentor for the kids; Preston Taylor gives volunteer opportunities to be a light for this community. If you want to be involved contact collin@prestontaylorministries.org!
