Senior Spotlight – Meet Eric

April 18, 2019

RePublic senior Eric Nixon says he owes his love for and passion about football to Mr. C

han. “We played in that empty lot next to PTM so many times!”

Eric has been at PTM since Kindergarten and has this to say about his favorite memories: “My favorite high school memory is when we all went to Gatlinburg because we were all together. It was a great bonding time. Best earlier memory is, I think it was 5th grade, Mr. Chan took us camping…Jabez, me, Romale, LaDarius and we played Capture the Flag. It was like 30 degrees and we went to the waterfall and took our shirts off. It was great!”

Earliest memory? “Falling off the slide with friends and we were laughing and crying at the same time!” He has lots of early memories with Mr. Chan and Ms. Sarah.

Q: Eric, what are three words to describe you?

A: Friendly, intelligent, outgoing.

Q: What is something you do that makes you feel happy?

A: Playing video games, basketball, football, going to church and learning something new about the Lord, being with my friends and family.

Q: Who, living or dead, would you want to have lunch with and what would you ask?

A:  MLK. I would ask, “How did you go about doing all that so peacefully?” I would ask for some great words of wisdom to benefit me.

Q: Who is someone you admire and why?

A: Mr. Dwight, Mr. Chan, Mr. Terrance, Mr. Brody…They are my mentors. Also, Mr. D at

Community House. Once I didn’t come for two weeks and they were calling me, calling my mom worried about me. It is special to have people in your life that care about you like that.

Also, my mom and dad. They tell me to keep my head up and be the best I can and nothing less.

Q: Do you have a favorite subject at school?

A: Economics. I love my teacher Coach lambert. He uses jokes to explain things- it is fun but educational. He is a great teacher.

Q: What is your plan post high school?

A: I want to go to UT-Chattanooga and take marine biology but still not sure…

Q: What do you see happening in your life in 10 years?

A: I would like to have a wife, one child, a nice house and living great with no worries.

Q: What do you see as a good trait for your future wife to have?

A: Friendly, intelligent, outgoing like me, very caring.

Q: What do you hope people think when they hear your name?

A: That I am a leader, successful, a caring person and always willing to give.

Thank you, Eric!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
