Meet Dylan

July 14, 2017

Hi, my name is Dylan. I am going to be a Junior in high school at Lipscomb Academy this school year. I have been a part of PTM programming since I was in the third grade, and in the high school summer program, PTM helps its students to find jobs. Interestingly, I was asked to work in the middle school program, which I was a part of just two and a half years earlier! It was hard to wrap my head around the fact that I’d have to lead kids who’d known me to be a student. However, I thought it’d be great to see all the work that goes into the program that has brought me so many great memories and experiences. I now have worked her for four weeks, and I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned to be patient, and how to forgive even when it isn’t deserved. I’ve also learned to stay positive, and how to better comfort others.

Because of my experience as a student at PTM I thought that I knew what to expect to some extent, I can’t think of a time where I was more wrong. There is so much time and love put into every action made by the staff here. From praying for kids at meetings, to taking time at home to research field trips for the week. I had absolutely no idea. It is truly an eye opening experience.

One of my responsibilities at the Park Avenue site is to make sure that there is a SPARK activity, which is basically physical education. I love those moments where a student finds a loophole in a game I’ve made to make it more interesting, or when a student tries to persuade me to join their team so they have a better chance of winning, but most of all I love it when a student comes afterwards and thanks me for taking the time to find something so fun for them to do. It warms my heart every time.

Finally, If I could travel anywhere new I’d want to go to France. It’s a beautiful place with so much history. It’d be fun to learn some of the cultural differences as well.
