Dear Future Reading Teacher,
You recognize that reading is a spiritual issue. When children are growing up behind in reading they are more prone to experience the challenges inherent in most low-income communities:teenage pregnancy, low high school graduation rate, low-paying jobs, crime, drug use, and poor health. For many, reading on level builds confidence and ability to pursue an education that opens doors. You are burdened by the disadvantages of at-risk youth and are committed to help provide hope—through reading development.
You love reading. You want others to enjoy reading and you are able to make reading fun. Students will consider their time with you the best part of their day. Not only do you enjoy reading, but you know how to help others read. You know words like “phonemic awareness” and “reciprocal reading”. You know how to teach reading comprehension strategies. You know how to assess reading progress. Even though you know all these things, you have a willingness to learn from our literacy team and keep building on your skills and experience.
You love children. When they are in your care, they feel loved and cared for. They feel safe because you are able to lead a classroom consistently, firmly, and fairly. Not only do they feel loved, but they feel inspired to love one another because of your leadership. And they sense God’s presence and grow in their desire for relationship with God.
There are things about this job that will feel great to you. You recognize that the children you serve will add value to your life. They will grow your understanding of God and God’s community. Even though the position is only for 8-10 hours per week, you will feel like you are a part of a team. You will enjoy the PTM staff and fit in like family. You will be compensated at $20 per hour, but you will feel like you are overpaid. Like for me, the biggest benefits will come in the satisfaction of serving God and others doing something that is fun, that makes a difference, and that provides many opportunities for relationships with outstanding people.
For more information, please read the job description. If interested in this position, please email a cover letter and resume to Collin (collin@prestontaylorministries.org). I can’t wait to meet you and to serve with you. You will make PTM better.
Very gratefully yours,
Chan
