Dear Future Community House Middle School Director,
You are going to love working with Lisa at Community House. She will challenge and encourage you. She will make sure that you are equipped to use your gifts to strengthen the opportunities for some pretty special youth. You will love getting to know Sandra, Austin, Jerome, and Carlos. You will thrive in an environment of youth from different cultures. You will also enjoy community suppers where you get to speak to many parents in their native Spanish language helping to build their confidence in PTM’s staff and their enthusiasm for the opportunities that PTM can offer.
Above all, the biggest gift you will offer them is an opportunity to grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ. They will see in you one who puts God first, is grounded in scriptural understanding, lives in a dynamic personal relationship with Jesus, and works tirelessly to help them pursue faith with enthusiasm. You embody the very core beliefs that we want desperately the youth of PTM to know, feel, and experience.
In addition to being a person of great faith who bathes every decision and initiative in prayer, I very much appreciate that you are versatile. To give our youth the maturity they need to pursue God-inspired dreams they have to be confident academically—you are able to instruct key middle school academic competencies (and recruit others to provide even more specialized academic help). You see the value of being “work-ready” and begin planting those seeds with 5th graders through Springbreak in the Marketplace and regular classes on job skills. You can be a pastor, a counselor, a coach, a parent, a supervisor, and a friend.
You are creative. You know how to plan a program using the space and equipment readily available to you. Whether you have 5 weeks or 5 minutes to plan, you are able to lead youth in a way that inspires. You are comfortable playing soccer, connect four, basketball, or providing a craft project, or teaching job skills.
You believe in the power of connections and work hard to help the youth under your care feel connected—to God, to a caring adult, to a positive peer group, and to academic confidence. You work hard to get your youth field trips, signed up for retreats, and enrolled in mentoring programs through PTM. Not only do you help create these connections, but you are able to document them and communicate progress to PTM youth, families, and other PTM stakeholders.
You are compassionate. You are not just “nice” to everyone, but you take the time to understand the community in which we serve. You do the hard things to build real community and empower the families who are a part of PTM. You demonstrate a cultural understanding that values the unique contributions that our families make and you invite parents into all aspects of PTM programming.
You are a giver. You have a generous spirit and you look for ways to volunteer at PTM. You enjoy giving financial contributions to PTM because you recognize what a good investment in youth PTM is—and how wisely contributions are managed.
You will enjoy the PTM staff and will fit in like family. You will make $20 per hour working on average 25 hours per week. While you could make more money in another job, you will enjoy working at PTM so much you will feel like you are overpaid. Like for me, the biggest benefits will come in the satisfaction of serving God and others, doing something that is fun, that makes a difference, and that provides many opportunities for relationships with outstanding people.
If interested in this position, please email a cover letter and resume by July 20, 2017 to Collin (collin@prestontaylorministries.org). I am very excited about meeting you and serving with you.
Very gratefully yours,
Chan Sheppard
