God’s Grace & Volunteer Stories by Martha

969683_10152031142481982_618234164_n In a recent survey sent out through an e-newsletter there was the opportunity for volunteers to share a favorite memory from the past year at PTM. In reading through these stories, I was strongly reminded of how God is so faithful to take our ‘ordinary’ actions of love and do with them more than we can imagine. In His grace, He chooses to use us and our daily interactions (with family, friends, PTM students, strangers…) to write stories that are bigger than ourselves and bigger than the here-and-now. I am humbled and encouraged by how the volunteers at PTM allow God to work through them to fulfill His purpose and plan for each student at PTM. Enjoy these glimpses into sweet moments from the past year, and click here t o see a full summary of the survey results.

“I enjoyed taking one of the youth into the workplace and introducing him to adults in the working community that he would not otherwise have had the opportunity to come in contact with. I think he learned a lot and got some great advice.”

“I was pleased that Tess asked the SaLT mentors to indicate how their
mentees had inspired them & vice versa.”

“Joyceonna Goodner (my lunch buddy) seems more engaged with PTM…I hope she’ll keep up with Jr. High program! MANY students’ attitudes at Wilson Center improved over the course of the year (regarding homework).:)”

“I took two 3rd graders out for a day to Cheekwood and then the movies.

Seeing them at Cheekwood was delightful…We should have just stayed there all day and forgotten the movies! They took off their shoes and ran in the grass and ‘fished for tadpoles’ in the stream and chased each other and made friends with other chlidren who were there. I felt like their lives had been freed up a bit for a half day.”

“I was able to sign up my lunch buddy, Jada Jones, at The First Tee program and got her started in golf. We had been having a great weekly time together practicing and learning and driving to East Nashville together…it has been fun and hilarious watching and helping her learn how to hit a golf ball!”

“I loved it when Bryan Ruiz took pizza for John’s class at school and John felt like a hero.”

“Too many! I would need to sort through them all in my mind first to pick one! :)”

“I have a lot of good memories from this year….My SaLT mentee graduated this year, so being part of the Senior Banquet was so meaningful and watching her walk across the stage to receive her diploma at graduation. I love the SaLT program and hope we can continue to grow and expand it.”
