Based on experience and research, we believe that the greatest gift that we can offer to a child who lives in an at-risk environment is a relationship with Jesus Christ that evolves out of a relationship with a caring adult. We believe that the volunteers at PTM are the ones who will help a child to experience the real life-change that is essential to overcome the obstacles of life in and around a public housing area.
When students who have been in poverty and successfully made it into middle class are asked how they made the journey, the answer nine times out of ten has to do with a relationship, an adult who took an interest in them as individuals. – Ruby K. Payne
PTM believes the key to helping children become motivated to participate meaningfully in school and society is through strong relationships with caring adults. Currently, approximately 225 volunteers per week invest in children served through the combined programs at PTM.
