“Ms. Sarah can my mom come on the field trip?!” This is the question that always echos back when there is a field trip experience for my Community House students to attend. I needed an opportunity to answer that question with a “Yes!” and thankfully Rejoice Ministries provided one. So, on Thursday February 16th, a group of 23 moms and daughters stayed after programming to be in community with one another and enjoy a ballet performance of Sleeping Beauty.

As I sat on the bus steps and listened to the excited chatter in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish-the beauty of it all hit me. Dance breaks down cultural and language barriers and allows everyone to enter into the story being told. The mothers and daughters did not have to fight to be apart of the community; they were allowed to enter in exactly how they came. And that is a picture of the church. As followers of Christ we are called to enter into community with one another and fully participate-just as we are.

Thank you Rejoice Ministries for showing a group of girls that dancers come from all backgrounds-racial, cultural, and socio-economic.

Thank you Jesus that you call us to be apart of your beautiful and diverse community.
